OUR STORY

Using the Waldorf method, the Jardim do Cajueiro Community School strives for the comprehensive development of children in the Maraú Peninsula community, in the state of Bahia, Brazil. The School is a non-profit social educational project that relies on the help of teachers, parents, sponsors, and donors to continue operating.

Founded in 2006 in a borrowed house, the Jardim do Cajueiro school started by teaching 24 children, with the vast majority coming from low-income families. Currently, almost 100 students are taught in two kindergarten classes and five classes from first to fifth year as 50% of all spots remain for scholarship students, mainly from families in a situation of socioeconomic vulnerability.

THE WALDORF METHOD

Through the Waldorf method, the 'Jardim do Cajueiro' school stimulates enthusiasm for learning and healthy development by acting on the physical and spiritual progress of its students, encouraging physical activity in almost every class. Feelings are stimulated by the constant artistic approach and age-specific craft activities while imagination and creativity are encouraged through play.

In kindergarten, conditions are created for the children's imagination and will to develop the confidence that human wisdom inspires. The children play, sing, dance, draw, paint, cook, act, sew, and listen to fairy tales. Repetition and routines are created for the children and repeated daily, weekly, monthly and annually.
